As some of you may know, I am a co-founder of the Minnesota chapter of Guardian Angels for Soldier’s Pet. We are a non-profit organization that finds temporary foster care for soldier’s pets while they are serving our country and don’t have any friends or family to care for their pets while they are away. We currently have 23 animals in foster care through our program. Most of them are dogs, but we do have a few cats as well.
Today we were at a family preparedness event for some Minnesota soldier’s that are being deployed in the next few months and it was so neat to meet all of them and chat with them. It was so nice to see the relief on a soldier’s face when they hear about what we do and realize that they don’t have to surrender their pet while they serve our country. Soldier’s love their pets, just like the rest of us do and they should be able to come home and enjoy their pets after their deployments are over!
We anticipate getting quite a few requests for foster homes in the next few months with this deployment coming. There were about 1800 soldiers at just this event this weekend alone! We are always looking for good foster homes to care for these animals. Our goal is to make the best match possible for the soldier’s pet and the foster home.
