It’s time for the annual Guardian Angels for Soldier’s Pet MN Chap­ter Garage Sale!!

This will be our 4th annual garage sale—THE major fundrais­ing event of the year for Guardian Angels for Soldier’s Pet-MN.

With pro­ceeds from last year’s sale, we were able to make impor­tant con­tri­bu­tions to the national “MVP” Mil­i­tary and Vet­er­ans’ Pet Sanc­tu­ary project, as well as our Min­nesota Mil­i­tary Pet Assis­tance Fund, and of course our Min­nesota Fos­ter Home Pro­gram. We need and appre­ci­ate your support—be it dona­tions in the form of items we can sell, or just stop­ping by to do some shopping.

DROP OFF—begins Sat. Aug. 1st—Wed. Aug 12th. Help unload­ing after 10AM on week­ends or by appoint­ment (just call.)

If you do not need help and/or we’re not home, items can sim­ply be left at the rear garage build­ing against the door. (A phone mes­sage that you’ve left items is appreciated.)

If you need to arrange a pick up at your home, please give us a call at (952)894‑9264. Just leave a brief mes­sage that you need to arrange a pickup, and your phone num­ber, and we’ll call you to set it up.

NEW SIGNS—You may notice our new signs. Last year we were approached by the Burnsville Sign Police (No! I am NOT kid­ding!) Seems we were in vio­la­tion of a new ordi­nance meant to limit pesky com­mer­cial adver­tis­ing signs from being posted in res­i­den­tial areas. We were required to amend our signs—mid-sale—to include the word­ing “GARAGE SALE”.

I am happy to report that our new signs should fully com­ply, unless they’ve since out­lawed Red White and Blue. (Who knew?!)

Items that sell well include sport­ing, exer­cise, fish­ing, camp­ing, hunt­ing, yard/garden & stereo equip. Build’g/remodel’g sup­plies. Yard games, bikes, skates, wag­ons, musi­cal instru-ment, musi­cal toys, board games, books, puz­zles, video games. Pet items, fish tanks. Child/Baby items (cribs, strollers, toys.) Clean cloth­ing in good con­di­tion, adult/children’s out­er­wear, jack­ets, boots. Kitchen items, tools, grills, fur­ni­ture, small electrics/appliances, linens, house­hold decra­tive items.

The fol­low­ing items do NOT sell well or require dis­posal fees if unsold: Worn sofas, file cab­i­nets, computers/computer desks, large old-style microwaves.

Serving our Country

As some of you may know, I am a co-founder of the Min­nesota chap­ter of Guardian Angels for Soldier’s Pet.  We are a non-profit orga­ni­za­tion that finds tem­po­rary fos­ter care for soldier’s pets while they are serv­ing our coun­try and don’t have any friends or fam­ily to care for their pets while they are away.  We cur­rently have 23 ani­mals in fos­ter care through our pro­gram.  Most of them are dogs, but we do have a few cats as well. 

Today we were at a fam­ily pre­pared­ness event for some Min­nesota soldier’s that are being deployed in the next few months and it was so neat to meet all of them and chat with them.  It was so nice to see the relief on a soldier’s face when they hear about what we do and real­ize that they don’t have to sur­ren­der their pet while they serve our coun­try.  Soldier’s love their pets, just like the rest of us do and they should be able to come home and enjoy their pets after their deploy­ments are over!

We antic­i­pate get­ting quite a few requests for fos­ter homes in the next few months with this deploy­ment com­ing.  There were about 1800 sol­diers at just this event this week­end alone!  We are always look­ing for good fos­ter homes to care for these ani­mals. If you, or some­one you know might be inter­ested in fos­ter­ing a soldier’s pet, you can find out more infor­ma­tion in the Fos­ter a Pet sec­tion of our web­site.  There you can fill out a Fos­ter Home Appli­ca­tion which will be reviewed and we will then con­tact you to dis­cuss what might be a good fit for your sit­u­a­tion.  Our goal is to make the best match pos­si­ble for the soldier’s pet and the fos­ter home.
